Bookending the month is BritBox Original The Hunt for Raoul Moat and companion documentary, Manhunt: The Raoul Moat Story, which digs deeper into a manhunt that captivated the nation and helped ushered in an era of wall- to-wall news coverage in the country.

BritBox will also take a comic tilt this September to honor the premiere of its Original series Avoidance, featuring UK comedian Romesh Ranganathan (Netflix’s The Cynic) in North America and South Africa. In addition, the platform will premiere a new mini-series of Mrs. Brown’s Boys in the U.S. this autumn.

  • September 28, 2023: The Hunt for Raoul Moat | BritBox Original, North American Premiere, BritBox Exclusive |3 x 60’ |All at Once
The Hunt for Raoul Moat shines a light on the human tragedies behind the true story of Britain’s biggest ever manhunt. In 2010, Raoul Moat (Matt Stokoe, Bodyguard) went on the run after shooting three people, evading capture for over a week and threatening to kill again. As the first such case to be covered ‘live’ by 24-hour news channels in the UK, the manhunt played out against a warped perception of this vicious killer as an ‘anti-hero’, a persecuted victim fighting back against the authorities. A timely reminder of how fake news and social media can create a dangerous myth, this is an unflinching account of those shocking events, focusing on Moat’s innocent victims, the officers who put themselves in the firing line, and the journalist who sought to tell the real story.

This layered, true-crime documentary uses previously unseen news archive, UGC and Moat’s own audio tapes to detail how the story evolved in real-time, and wonders what turned this seemingly ordinary man into a killer. It also reveals the impact of 24-hour rolling news and social media, as events built to a dramatic climax.
