New TV-on-DVD/BD Releases This Week

Jul 31, 2012 Posted by in DVD/Blu-ray | Comments

Tomorrow is a little light on new mainstream TV-on-DVD and Blu-ray releases. So I just wanted to highlight a couple of this week’s new titles folks may have missed since they originally aired on cable or online.

Misfits Season One DVD

Kelly (BAFTA-winner Lauren Socha), Nathan (Robert Sheehan, The Borrowers, Season of the Witch), Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), Alisha (Antonia Thomas), and Simon (Iwan Rheon) are five unruly teenagers forced to do community service as payback for their crimes. But when a freak electrical storm hits their town, strange things begin to happen to the gang as they discover that they have each developed a superpower, one that reveals their deepest, darkest insecurities. Though they just want to finish their community service and get through the challenges of everyday teenage life – relationships, friendships, parents and sex – fate has another task in store for them: they must save their town from the evil that has descended upon it. With abilities ranging from invisibility to hearing people’s thoughts, these young malcontents are going to learn that having great power sure can get in the way of having a great time.

Bonus features include:

  • Making of Misfits
  • Cast and Crew Interviews
  • Simon’s Films
  • An exclusive collector’s free t-shirt offer

If you haven’t yet checked out Misfits, I highly recommend you do so with this Season 1 DVD! It’s a really great series. It’s like “Heroes Meets Alphas and Goes to Juvi”.

Hatfields & McCoys Blu-ray & DVD

Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner (Best Picture and Best Director, 1991, Dances With Wolves) stars as Anse ‘Devil’ Hatfield, and four-time Golden Globe nominee Bill Paxton (TV’s “Big Love,” TV’s “A Bright Shining Lie”), stars as Randall McCoy in the epic, true tale of close friends turned enemies. The infamous back country feud that became an American legend begins with Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy, close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, when they return to their neighboring homes – Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky – to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon explode into all-out warfare between the families. As hostilities grow, friends, neighbors and outside forces join the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War.

The all-star ensemble cast also includes Matt Barr (TV’s “Hellcats”), Tom Berenger (Inception), Powers Boothe (The Avengers), Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), and Mare Winningham (Mirror Mirror). HATFIELDS & McCOYS bonus material includes the “I Know These Hills,” music video featuring Kevin Costner & Modern West.
