If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/19/16

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/19/16

Tonight NBC is airing a special preview of the new game show The Wall, from executive producer LeBron James. The series is hosted by actor/comedian Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead, @midnight), and each week he offers pairs of contestants the chance to take home over $12 million dollars in cash and prizes! All that stands in between these pairs of contestants and the life-altering prizes is a massive four-story wall. As the contestants get answers correct, green balls fall from the giant Plinko-like wall, and the dollar amounts listed in the slots the balls land in get added to the contestants' total. However, as they get questions wrong, red balls fall into amounts that are deducted from their potential winnings...

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/18/16

Tonight, the first season of USA Network’s crime drama Eyewitness comes to a close. Last week, things got really tense—Lukas survived being shot but was in a coma. Ryan tried to poison Lukas’s IV bag in order to finally silence him, but Lukas was moved to another room before the bag was attached. Ryan was also surprised to learn that Philip, Helen’s foster son, was another witness to his murders. Meanwhile, Philip recognized Ryan at a gas station and alerted Helen (though neither was aware that he is the FBI agent she has been working with). Things went into high alert at the hospital, and Helen called Ryan to help protect the boys. However, shortly afterwards she finally had her Keyser Söze moment—in Ryan’s glove compartment she found the cologne worn by the killer, and in the backseat she saw the hat and glasses Philip said the killer was wearing. Her heart sank as she realized that she had just told the killer exactly where the boys were hiding...

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/16/16

Today, after a long time away, The Man in the High Castle finally returns for its second season on Amazon Prime Video. The series, which is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel, is set in an alternate 1962, where America has lost World War II. The Axis victors divided up the U.S. into the Japanese Pacific States to the west, the Greater Nazi Reich in the east, and a small Neutral Zone in the middle. A glimmer of hope for the former Americans lies in these mysterious films made by the “Man in the High Castle,” which depict an alternate version of the world’s events. The resistance is secretly working to get these movies out to the people...

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/14/16

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/14/16

I was tempted to repeat my pick from yesterday and go for another 2-hour holiday-themed ABC comedy block. However, instead I’ll recommend the biannual three-hour Survivor finale/reunion. This Millennials vs. Gen X season has been really interesting and filled with lots of surprising twists and turns. Last week we got two tribal councils. First, Jay won immunity and Will went home, with David getting the rest of the votes. Adam helped Ken win the second immunity challenge. At the vote, Jay got worried and used his idol, but it was a waste, as he only received one vote while David got 2 and Sunday got 3. Now we are down to the final six, and there’s an even split from the original teams – Millennials Adam, Hannah, and Jay, and Gen-Xers Bret, Ken, and David. Who will be eliminated next, who will be the final three, and will Ken last long enough to see what his mystery Legacy advantage is?!...

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/13/16

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/13/16

Fall TV is winding down, and tonight all four shows in the ABC’s Tuesday comedy block—The Middle, American Housewife, Fresh Off the Boat, and The Real O’Neals—are airing their midseason finales, and that means fun Christmas-themed episodes! As I’ve said in the past, I’m a huge fan of holiday episodes on these kinds of family sitcoms. They always find clever ways to re-tell classic Christmas stories, such as A Christmas Carol or It’s a Wonderful Life, or come up with completely new and original holiday tales. These kinds of Christmas-themed episodes always help to put me into the holiday spirit. I’m especially interested to see what happens on The Middle after last week, when Axl dropped the bombshell that he and April got married. How are Frankie and Mike going to react to this news?!...
