Tonight the third/final season of the AT&T/DirecTV original series Kingdom kicks off on Audience. I don't have DirecTV or AT&T U-verse, but recently caught up on the first two seasons via DVD (which is available next Tuesday at Walmart). I had always assumed this was a show just about MMA fighting, but was pleased to discover that it is so much more than that. The fights, while realistically brutal to watch, are just a small piece of the series—it is much more of a family drama, following the lives of those who work and train in the Navy Street Gym in Venice, CA. Tonight, the second season of Animal Kingdom premieres on TNT. The series follows the lives and exploits of the Cody family. Matriarch “Smurf” is very tough, always in charge, and is constantly plotting some new heist or illegal activity for her four adult sons to pull off. In the first season, teenager “J” moved in with his grandmother after his mother, Smurf’s estranged daughter, ODed. Smurf is very manipulative and likes to keep her boys close. So when she saw son Baz’s wife Catherine starting to cause a divide between her and her son, she convinced her eldest, “Pope,” to murder Catherine, claiming that she had stolen money from the family and was working with the Feds. This left Baz frantically searching for his wife and Pope with an immense guilt hanging over him every time he sees Baz’s daughter, Lena. Meanwhile, the Feds tried to use J to infiltrate the family and catch them in the act, but he ultimately opted to join the family business instead...

Tonight, FOX kicks off the new series Beat Shazam, a modern version of the classic Name That Tune game show. Actor/musician Jamie Foxx (Ray) hosts the series, which finds four teams of two trying to identify songs as quickly as humanly possible. Each round, the teams are presented with a choice between two music categories, and the faster they can name the songs, the more points they win. The team with the lowest score at the end of each round is eliminated. The last team remaining moves on to the final round, where they compete against the world’s best song-identifying app, Shazam – where “as fast as humanly possible” may not be quick enough!
