TV-on-DVD/BD Pick of the Week

We are now in the midst of Black Friday week–a TV-on-DVD/BD collector’s time of year–when there are loads of excellent deals! However, that doesn’t mean the new releases stop coming.

My Blu-ray new release pick for this week is Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series, which was another excellent season for the show. Again we have Matt Smith’s Doctor traveling with Amy and Rory, but we also get a whole lot of River Song! I loved how this season gave us so much of River’s back-story and really fit into the mythology established so many years ago in “Silence in the Library.” I can’t wait for the upcoming Christmas special and 7th series!

For DVD picks, there are two that I can recommend. First, with the new Tintin movie coming out, I’d recommend checking out The Adventures Of Tintin: Season One. I remember really enjoying this series when it aired in the early ’90s on HBO. It was my first introduction to Tintin. Each week, I couldn’t wait to join Tintin, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, Thomson & Thompson and the rest of the gang of globe-trotting mystery solvers on their latest adventure. Two of the stories featured in season 1 are the same stories on which the feature film is based.

Finally, if you don’t already own any of the previous releases of the series, The Office: Special Edition should definitely be a part of your collection. This 10th anniversary edition of the original UK version of the series features all 14 episodes (both seasons & the 2-part Christmas special), along with a host of new extras. Laugh at–and feel totally awkward by–the actions of David Brendt, the original Michael Scott.
