The Librarians began as a trio of TV movies in 2004, and then the adventures continued in a TNT series that ran for four seasons, from 2014-2018. Last year, the franchise expanded with The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spin-off set in the same universe that follows time traveling librarian Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan) from the past who ends up trapped in the present. Upon returning to his castle in Serbia, which is now a museum, he accidentally unleashes magic across the continent. To contain his mistake, Vikram tasks a special team of new librarians with recovering powerful supernatural artifacts and restoring order. This team includes mathematician/engineer/physicist Dr. Lysa Pascal (Olivia Morris), disgraced university professor-turned-Internet video-streaming conspiracy theorist Connor Green (Bluey Robinson), and combat veteran/Guardian candidate Charlie Cornwall (Jessica Green).

The second season of the new series premieres this Sunday, August 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with a second episode airing on Monday. This season, the team must confront not only external threats but also their own deepest fears and darkest nightmares. Lysa and Connor grapple with the realities of their new roles as Librarians, while Charlie struggles under the weight of being the team’s sole Guardian. Vikram, meanwhile, must surrender his lone-wolf instincts to fully embrace team mentality. Further complicating matters, the group unexpectedly crosses paths with legendary magician Merlin (Dominic Monaghan), who challenges the very foundation of the Library and tempts them to break its most sacred rule.

In the season premiere, the Librarians are sent to an international boarding school to investigate a mysterious outbreak of inexplicable rage. There, they encounter a mysterious man claiming to be the wizard Merlin. Together, they must overcome their own rising anger and uncover the source of the magic before time runs out.

As the Librarians embark on their fantastical adventures – from containing a chaos-unleashing genie and confronting a sinister new Peter Pan who holds one of their own captive, to chasing a Monkey’s Paw that forces them to confront their personal pasts—a dynamic lineup of guest stars supercharge the season. Special appearances include Screen Actors Guild Award nominees Dominic Monaghan (Lost, The Lord of the Rings) and Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Downton Abbey), alongside Josh Gates (Expedition Unknown), Stefan Kapičić (Deadpool), Oliver Dench (Hotel Portofino, Pandora), Ty Tennant (House of the Dragon, War of the Worlds), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2, The Rookie), and Alan Emrys (Translations, Host), among others. Audiences will also see the reprise of original series cast members Lindy Booth (Dawn of the Dead) as “Cassandra Cillian” and Christian Kane (Leverage) as “Jacob Stone.”

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we got the opportunity to speak with the new crop of librarians—Callum McGowan, Bluey Robinson, Olivia Morris & Jessica Green— as well as showrunner Dean Devlin and returning librarians from the original series, Lindy Booth & Christian Kane, who will guest on an episode this season. The cast was a lot of fun, sharing stories about what it was like working on the show, the games they played on set, some of the amazing guest stars they worked with, and more. Showrunner Dean Devlin talked about the endless possibilities for the franchise, and shared some of the challenges of having the only scripted show on two different networks, while the veteran Librarians talked about returning to this world.
