From the Award-Winning Teams Behind ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ ‘The Amazing Race,’ and ‘Queer Eye,’ the Greatest Reality Producers and World’s Best Storytellers Team Up to Create a Thrilling Reality Competition Inside a Richly Scripted World
Travel to the Fantasy World of Everealm With Eight Real Teens as They Complete a Series of Quests to Save the Land From Evil
(ANAHEIM, CALIF – April 2, 2022) – Today, Disney+ asked audiences at Wondercon, “Do you have what it takes to save the Kingdom?” as they were welcomed to Everealm, the world at the center of the unique new Original Series, “The Quest,” streaming May 11 only on Disney+.
For thousands of years, Everealm has been a land of unrivaled beauty and powerful magic. Now, the realm is threatened by a powerful evil Sorceress. As a last hope, the noble Fates summon eight strangers known as Paladins from a world beyond to work together to fulfill an ancient prophecy and vanquish the Sorceress. The Paladins must unlock the hero within through a series of challenges that push their limits to restore balance to Everealm. If they fail, all will be lost. Heroes will rise. Kingdoms will fall.
Brought to the screen by the Academy Award®- and Emmy®-winning teams behind “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Amazing Race” and “Queer Eye,” “The Quest” is a groundbreaking, immersive, hybrid competition series that drops eight real-life teenagers (Paladins) into the fantastic, fictional world of Everealm, where they must save a kingdom by fulfilling an ancient prophecy. Throughout the eight-episode series, these heroes are immersed in a fantasy world come to life, complete with a castle, royals, ethereal fates, all forms of mystical creatures and a sorceress intent on destruction and power.
“The Quest” combines the best elements of scripted and unscripted content to create an immersive competition series where fantasy and reality collide as the teens compete in challenges in a fully-realized world of adventure. Each Paladin’s mind, body, and soul will be put to the test with new surprises around every corner of the unknown land, changing not only the fate of Everealm, but also their own.
“We’re doing something magical that has never been done at this level. We’re taking real people and putting them in a fully realized fantasy story, conceived and built by incredible artisans in every department,” say Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky, executive producers, Court Five. “It’s an immersive, real-life hero’s journey for these eight normal teenagers, who transform before your very eyes. It’s an exciting new form of storytelling.”
“What makes ‘The Quest’ so unique is that it’s a true hybrid of scripted and reality,” say Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster, executive producers, New Media Collective. “It’s a groundbreaking new genre where we place real teenagers in a reality competition and bring them into a fully realized fantasy world that is built on a scripted mythology of intrigue and adventure played out alongside actors for a completely immersive experience.”
“We were very focused on the aesthetic of the show, from production design through costume design, making sure that everything felt authentic. We wanted both our Paladins and our audience to feel immersed in the epic world we created,” say Michael Williams and Rob Eric, executive producers, from Scout Productions.
“The Quest” is produced by Court Five, New Media Collective and Scout Production Inc. From Court Five, Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky (“Lord of the Rings”) are executive producers. From New Media Collective, Bertram van Munster, Elise Doganieri and Mark Dziak (“The Amazing Race”) are executive producers. From Scout Production Inc., Rob Eric, Michael Williams and David Collins (“Queer Eye”) are executive producers.
- David (14 years old)
David is from Waldorf, Maryland, and is a fan of “all things fantasy.” He was introduced to “The Legend of Zelda” series at a young age and was immediately hooked. He is an avid athlete, playing tennis at a competitive level as well as being a boxer. David’s outward love of fantasy and his Korean ethnicity led to him feeling like an outcast growing up. After an eye-opening trip to South America, where he taught English to international students, David came back with a different perspective on life, with newly formed confidence and re-embracing the fantasy side of his life. David hopes to inspire other teenagers to embrace their “inner nerds” and not worry about being judged.- Serean (14 years old)
Serean is from Tenino, Washington, and lives in a log cabin that reminds her of The Shire from “The Lord of the Rings.” She has a bubbly and energetic personality and, in her words, has “energy that can never be killed.” She loves the performing arts and has participated in plays for several years. She is also a former track athlete and loves to run. “The Quest” is an opportunity she has been dreaming of her entire life!- Holden (16 years old)
Holden is from Northridge, California. He has always been passionate about all things fantasy-related — dragons, elves, you name it. In fact, Holden has been writing his own fantasy books for several years. When he’s not writing or playing games with his friends, he can be found practicing clarinet and piano. He loves the board game Talisman because it allows the players to invest heavily in a fantasy world and create a story. Now, he’s about to be immersed into a fantasy world on a whole new level on “The Quest!”- Myra (16 years old)
Myra was raised in Queens, New York, and she is proud of her Japanese and Tanzanian roots. She loves anime, breakdancing and making people laugh whenever she can. As a lover of “all things space-related,” Myra wants to be an astronaut when she grows up. She loves math and enjoys being able to fill in answers like pieces to a puzzle. Myra says “The Quest” is the type of adventurous exploration she’s always dreamed of!- Shaan (13 years old)
Shaan is from San Ramon, California. His family is originally from India, and he is proud of his heritage. Shaan loves playing basketball and is an avid musician, playing four instruments. As an aspiring doctor, Shaan already has a specific job in mind: cardiac surgeon. This well-rounded California teenager is ready to use his leadership skills and unwavering perseverance to tackle any challenge on “The Quest.”- Ava (15 years old)
Ava is from Northwood, New Hampshire. As a nature lover, Ava can almost always be found outdoors. Whether climbing trees or playing her ukulele in the summer sun, she is a free spirit who marches to the beat of her own drum. Ava describes herself as both “a tomboy and a girly girl.” She is an avid horseback rider, skilled archer and volleyball player. Ultimately, she says her competitive spirit will drive her to succeed at any task in “The Quest.”- Caden (16 years old)
Caden is from Sugarland, Texas. He loves to act and sing, performing in more than 20 musicals sice he was 5 years old. He loves the fantasy realm because it allows him to develop creativity, as well as build confidence in who he is as a person. Caden says he has “no filter” and always speaks his mind, no matter what. He is excited to compete on “The Quest,” not just to challenge others but to challenge himself to be the best person he can be.- Toshani (14 years old)
Toshani is from Schenectady, New York, and comes from a large family. She has Guyanese and Chinese roots, so celebrating culture is very important in her household. She considers herself a “boss girl” and is a self-proclaimed feminist who always stands up for what is right. She has been competitive her whole life, which she credits to being one of four sisters. When it comes to the fantasy world, she loves anything related to the supernatural (she’s obsessed with witches). As a natural problem solver, this aspiring detective knows she brings the mental acuity to ring in victory on “The Quest.”
MEET THE RESIDENTS OF EVEREALM:
- Princess Adaline (played by Racquel Jean-Louis)
This beautiful princess is impulsive, smart and charismatic. It’s no wonder the people of Sanctum adore her! Princess Adaline proves herself impervious to the expectations of others. To her, they’re merely distractions from what she believes to be her true calling: the throne of Sanctum once ruled by her father, King Magnus. Though she loves her brothers dearly, she seeks every opportunity to demonstrate her diplomatic prowess in hopes that one day, she alone will rule Sanctum as queen.- Prince Emmett (played by Braeden De La Garza)
Wise beyond his years and brainy, with a streak of arrogance, Prince Emmett hungers for knowledge, particularly magical knowledge. He frequents the royal library, devouring books and ancient scrolls. Emmett is often criticized for being too reserved for his own good (and for that of the kingdom). But those who know him understand that Prince Emmett operates by a different set of values. He believes that a wise man is a well-educated man. And though Prince Emmett is less impulsive than his sister, his convictions are unwavering — and sometimes wrong — when he arrives at a decision.- Prince Cedric (played by Elliott Ross)
Strong, decisive and commanding, Prince Cederic seems the obvious choice to succeed his father as king of Sanctum, Everealm’s most powerful kingdom. Unsurprisingly, Cederic, above all his siblings, struggles to adapt to the harsh new reality of life in Oraa. In Sanctum, Prince Cederic spent his days pursuing his own interests: hunting, fishing and honing his keen abilities with the sword. In the days following his father’s death, Prince Cederic is more interested in fighting Tavora than believing in old prophecies. Despite his love for his siblings, he believes he is the only one to rule Sanctum and save Everealm from the evil Sorceress Tavora.- Mila (played by Emily Gateley)
A foot soldier in the Runeguard Army, Mila has the passion and skill of a warrior but the wisdom and moral fortitude of a mage. On the battlefield, she is confident and outspoken, but in social circles and around royalty, she holds back. When the Fates choose young Mila as the Oracle for The Quest, it proves to be the first step toward her unique destiny as a mighty warrior and a powerful mage.- Dravus (played by Harry Aspinwall)
Dravus comes from five generations of trusted advisors to the rulers of Sanctum. With the death of King Magnus, a new world of possibilities has opened for the ambitious Dravus. Though outwardly loyal to the cause of Sanctum, Dravus privately dabbles in the art of forbidden magic and is consumed with curiosity about the power of the Ferals, the dark, chaotic spirits whose singular goal is to usurp the Fates. When the Fates overlook him as the Oracle for The Quest, his demeanor changes slowly, revealing his pride and anger.- King Silas (played by Kerwin Thompson)
The younger brother of the late King Magnus of Sanctum and uncle to the three heirs, King Silas married into the royal family of Oraa. The optimistic ruler always sees the best in others — sometimes to a fault. The jovial king makes fast friends, but his bleeding heart tends to get him into trouble. A true statesman, King Silas is known to endear himself to the royals of neighboring kingdoms.- Sorceress Tavora (played by Melissa Mehrabian)
Tavora was not always the ruthless sorceress. As a young girl, Tavora displayed shockingly powerful magical abilities. But in her remote Sanctin village, people came to view her as a dangerous threat. She was banished to the Marwood Forest as a teenager, where she stumbled upon a portal to The Deep. There, she encountered the Ferals, Everealm’s triad of evil and chaos. From The Deep, they preyed on Tavora’s sadness by promising to replace it with dark power if she would use that power to one day free the Ferals from The Deep. Tavora accepted their offer, which set her on a course of chaos and destruction.
