We <3 U RoboCop: Top 5 Reasons Why We Love RoboCop!

THE FUTURE OF AMERICAN JUSTICE
COMES HOME THIS JUNE

ROBOCOP

Arriving on Digital HD May 20 and on Blu-ray,
DVD and VOD June 3

Directed by José Padilha, RoboCop stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley and Samuel L. Jackson.  In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and OmniCorp – the world’s leader in robot technology – sees a golden opportunity to reap billions for their company.  When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured, OmniCorp grabs their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer.  OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and will stop at nothing – no matter the cost to Alex – to make sure the program succeeds.  But OmniCorp never counted on one thing: there is still a man fighting inside the machine. In honor of the movie’s Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD releases, we present to you the top five reasons why we love RoboCop!

1. It’s its own movie!

Even though RoboCop pays homage to the original, it is still its own movie. Director Jose Padilha made sure to give audiences a new look into the classic film so that it was modern enough to make us love it. RoboCop also gave us a new perspective into the world of drone politics and forced us to think about the influence that a robotic entity could have on the human brain.

2. The technology is awesome!

Putting aside the whole political aspect of robot soldiers in RoboCop, we love the advanced technology. Created by CGI, it helps the director’s imagination go wild and create a futuristic world, though so different from our current state, not too distant to become fantasy. A system that could help the world fight crime while not discarding with human emotion and discerning ability is made possible in RoboCop and leaves us wishing something similar existed in real life. And who isn’t nerding out on those RoboCop suits? Superhuman strength combined with the sleekness of modern technology does not fail to impress. We are always on the search for a good sci-fi movie, and RoboCop totally delivers!

3. Joel Kinnaman!

Joel Kinnaman was able to show America his lead actor chops in The Killing, but, as RoboCop, the whole world gets a good look at him! Kinnaman stars as Alex Murphy, the good cop/family man whose life turns upside down when he becomes a half human, half machine soldier for the ominous OmniCorp organization. Apart from being handsome, smart, charming, and all those other qualities we look for in a leading man, Kinnaman is a great actor who packs a real emotional punch and is perfect for the RoboCop role.

4. It is smart and political!

Director Jose Padilha wanted RoboCop to deliver a sophisticated rendition of the future of technology, warfare, and politics. The movie still gives fans the action and satire they expected, but it adds the concepts of automated violence causing fascism and fighting against one’s own de-humanization. This produces a film that is so much smarter than many of the other blockbusters out there!

5. It features an underdog hero!

RoboCop is strong and almost undefeatable, like any superhero we could want, but the movie does away with the desire to be this particular hero. With heroes like Superman, Iron Man, and Batman who have all the money, cool gadgets, secret identities, and beautiful women they could ever need, who wouldn’t want to be them? They make it seem easy and almost fun. Alex Murphy is basically forced to become RoboCop to stay alive and is being used against his will for OmniCorp’s secret agenda. Alex loses part of himself when those chips that control his every move and make him believe it is his own intuition doing those things are installed in his brain! Losing control of our own abilities and thoughts is something we would never want, and this makes RoboCop an underdog.
