- “She’s like a human Trip Advisor.”
“Albert is not a hotel.”
“But if you could avoid staying in a bad one, wouldn’t you?”
Masseuse Eva (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) has been divorced for 10 years, and her daughter Ellen (Tracey Fairaway) is just about to head off to college. Eva has pretty much given up finding love again until she meets Albert (James Gandalfini) at a party and—despite Eva not finding him attractive in the normal sense of the word—the two hit it off. At the same party, Eva also meets new client/friend Marianne (Catherine Keener), who likes to vent about her ex-husband during their sessions. Just when things are going great with Albert, Eva realizes that the ex Marianne has been complaining about, and her new boyfriend, are one in the same. Now Eva finds herself second-guessing all of the great things she once saw in Albert.
Enough Said is a really enjoyable romantic comedy/drama with some really great, well-defined characters. The story follows Eva as she unexpectedly falls in love again, and then starts to doubt those feelings as she finds her thoughts inadvertently poisoned by her boyfriend’s ex-wife. The film allows Julia Louis-Dreyfus to explore the dramatic side of Eva while also providing that awkward situational humor she does so well. She delivers an excellent performance on both accounts. I was initially skeptical about the coupling between her and James Gandolfini, but the pair quickly proves they have delightful on-screen chemistry, and you instantly believe these two could be an actual couple.
Also in this world are Eva’s couple friends Sarah (Toni Collette) and Will (Ben Falcone), who can’t seem to decide whether or not to fire their horrible maid. The actors bring a lot of fun to these roles, and it’s great to hear Collette using her natural Australian accent. Another hilarious character that stole many scenes for me was Ellen’s needy friend Chloe (Tavi Gevinson), who has this unusual but fun mother/daughter relationship with Eva.
This Blu-ray release looks and sounds great, and contains a bunch of nice bonus features, including a 6-minute gag reel and 15 minutes of promotional featurettes. While some of the material in the interviews is a bit repetitive, they are a nice addition that give a glimpse into the casting and writing of the film.
While not a laugh-out-loud comic romp, Enough Said had me constantly smiling throughout the film. The characters are charming and fun, but the story also provides some drama, which yields a well-rounded, realistic look at the relationships and struggles faced by the characters. This film is definitely worth checking out.

Enough Said is a funny and charming romantic comedy/drama that showcases Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ ability to play both comedy and drama.
