DVD Review: WHITE COLLAR — The Complete Fourth Season

Oct 14, 2013 Posted by in DVD/Blu-ray, Reviews | Comments

At the end of the third season of White Collar, Agent Kramer (Beau Bridges) was investigating Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer)—he wanted to take him into custody and permanently relocate him to DC. At Neal’s setence commutation hearing, Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) gave testimony in favor of Neal, not knowing that the man he had vouched for had just cut his ankle monitor and run.

The fourth season opens with Neal on the run in Cape Verde, and new agent Kyle Collins (Mekhi Phifer) with Office of International Affairs arriving at the FBI offices. He was sent by Kramer to find, capture and lock up Neal. While Peter searches for Neal before the Feds get him, their partnership is in question—can he really trust Neal? And if he finds Neal, how can he prevent him from going back to jail for running away?

This fourth year of White Collar is another fun, action-packed season that introduces some more interesting characters and cases. First there’s Dobbs (Gregg Henry), a secretive, rich man who offers Neal asylum, but he has an ulterior motive. There’s also David Cook (Michael Weston), a criminal mastermind who, much like Neal, has long eluded Peter’s capture. Other guest stars include Laura Vandervoort, Hilarie Burton, Gloria Votsis, Titus Welliver, Reed Diamond, Treat Williams, Diahann Carroll (who sings!), Emily Procter, James Rebhorn, Judith Ivey, Raymond Cruz, Catherine Mary Stewart, and Victor Webster.

Some of this season’s plots include a really fun Mozzie-centric treasure hunt episode, some new love interests for Neal, Neal’s trial, Neal going undercover as a Wall Street stock trader, Peter and Neal entering the boxing ring, Peter and Neal attending and FBI conference, Peter and Neil posing as a whiskey maker and potential buyer, and crooked cops. Also, a search for Neal’s father and a mysterious evidence box leads to a lot of intrigue and trouble, as well as a proposal, an arrest, and an amazing season finale that will make you anxious for the upcoming fifth season!

While the series airs in HD on the USA Network, it only receives a standard definition release. However, the show still looks great on the DVD. The DVD set also contains some minimal but fun bonus features, including deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, an audio commentary and a hilarious uncensored gag reel.
