Wow, this is a huge release week!

There are a lot of single-season shows from last year being released today, including Detroit 1-8-7, The Defenders, Mad Love and Running Wilde. You can also pick up the latest season of many returning shows such as 90210, Cougar Town, Desperate Housewives, House, M.D., Sons of Anarchy, Parenthood, Nikita and The Vampire Diaries, in case you want to do a quick marathon catch-up before the new episodes start.

I am very happy that we are getting so many TV-on-BD releases this week (including House, M.D., Sons of Anarchy and The Vampire Diaries), but my pick of the week has to go to Nikita: The Complete First Season. This was a surprise breakout show. I really enjoyed the mix of action, mystery and drama. The first season moved very quickly, with many plot twists and turns. I can’t wait to see where they go next in the upcoming season.

For my DVD Pick of the week, I’m going to go with the canceled series The Defenders. I was disappointed this series was canceled so quickly. I thought it was a fun, light legal drama. The cases were interesting, and James Belushi & Jerry O’Connell were very likeable. It was also great to see Dan Aykroyd guest-starring on the series.
