Tonight The Mick returns to FOX to kick off its second season. In the first season, reckless black sheep Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) was forced to care for her niece and two nephews when her wealthy sister went on the lam. What resulted was a hilariously inappropriate Uncle Buck style comedy, that quickly became one of my favorite new comedies of last season. The first season of the series ended with a bang, literally. The Pembertons returned, only to get caught by the police, and in a huge cliffhanger, the mansion went up in flames.
I can’t wait to see where the show goes from here. Without the huge mansion, where are Mickey and the kids going to stay? Do they have any money stashed away, and if not, who is going to take it harder—Mickey or the kids?!
In tonight’s premiere, “The Hotel”, Mickey and the kids are forced to downgrade after their financial advisor cuts them off due to excessive spending; Chip learns tricks from Jimmy on how to live in a luxurious hotel.
Also premiering tonight is the new true crime drama Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. The series recreates the events of the crime, investigation and prosecution of Lyle (Miles Gaston Villanueva) & Eric Menendez (Gus Halper, Power), who brutally murdered their parents in Beverly Hills, California in 1989. The series also stars Edie Falco (The Sopranos) as defense attorney Leslie Abramson, Josh Charles (The Good Wife) as the young men’s psychiatrist Dr. Jerome Oziel, and Heather Graham (Austin Powers) as prosecution witness Judalon Smyth.
I haven’t really seen much Law & Order, but I really enjoyed the first two episodes of this series. It doesn’t go for campy, but rather a straightforward portrayal of the events. While I’m not as familiar with this case as the O.J. trial, the series has a similar feel to FX’s recent American Crime Story, except with the familiar look and feel of a Law & Order series. While we know how it ends, the devil is in the details, and I look forward to seeing how the case and investigation play out.
In tonight’s premiere, “Episode 1”, after the Menendez parents are found murdered, the eldest son, Lyle, maintains a stoic appearance, while his younger brother, Erik, is grief-stricken; evidence suggests Lyle and Erik may be guilty; a defense attorney takes an interest in the case.
Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording This Is Us, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, American Horror Story: Cult, and Chrisley Knows Best.
