Teen Wolf Season 3, Part 2 picks up a few weeks after Scott (Tyler Posey), Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), and Allison (Crystal Reed) performed the ritual sacrifice to stop Deucalion. Now these three are experiencing some dark side effects, seeing things that aren’t there. Meanwhile, the students have a new US History teacher, Mr. Yukimura (Tom Choi), who has just moved to Beacon Hills with his wife (Tamlyn Tomita) and daughter Kira (Arden Cho). This family will fit right is as they have their own supernatural secrets.
This second half of the third season of Teen Wolf contains that familiar blend of action, mystery, drama and humor I’ve always enjoyed about the series. The focus of our favorite group of supernatural beings in this collection of episodes—besides figuring out how to stop the odd side effects experienced by our main three characters—involves stopping some new visitors to Beacon Hills—the Oni, a group of demon warriors, and the evil Nogitsune, an evil spirit that was first summoned almost 70 year earlier.
While this release is “Part 2” of Season 3, it still contains just as many episodes as the previous three DVD releases for the series. The third season of Teen Wolf was double-sized—24 episodes instead of the usual 12—so MTV aired it in two halves. It’s an intense, action-packed collection of episodes, and the enemy they face is so evil that everyone may not survive the ordeal!
With Scott and Allison broken up, I really liked the addition of Arden Cho to the cast this half-season as the potential new love interest for Scott. She has great chemistry with the whole group, and adds an interesting new element to the dynamic. This season we also get to see a more serious and sinister side to Stiles, and Dylan O’Brien proves that he can do much more than just provide comic relief for the show. He really shines in these episodes, giving an amazing dramatic performance.
As with the previous home video releases, even though Teen Wolf airs in HD on MTV, it is only being released on standard-definition DVD. However, the DVD picture looks really crisp and clear and the audio also sounds great and captures all of the excitement and musical soundtrack. Speaking of the soundtrack, it should be noted that the back of the DVD says that the series has been musically edited. While I don’t know what the specific changes are, the series still sounded as great as ever to me while re-watching the episodes on this DVD set.
With each DVD release of this series we seem to get fewer and fewer bonus features. This set contains only a single featurette, which is an 8-minute tribute to the fans of the series. Inside the case is also a 19-page booklet containing fan art. While some may appreciate this, I would have preferred the gag reels, audio commentaries and other supplements we have seen on the previous releases!

Final Thoughts:
Teen Wolf continues to be an exciting series that comes up with interesting story arcs to explore over the course of each season. This season contains a great new addition to the cast with Arden Cho, and a stellar performance by Dylan O’Brien. The DVD set looks and sounds great but the discs only contain a single bonus feature, plus a Fan Art Collection booklet is included inside the case. Fans will still want to pick this set up for the episodes themselves, but I hope when season 4 is released that Fox will include a lot more supplemental material.
