Interviews With the Stars/Showrunner of NCIS: TONY & ZIVA From San Diego Comic-Con 2025

Sep 03, 2025 Posted by in Features, Interviews | Comments

Tomorrow Paramount+ will release the first three episodes of the new series NCIS: Tony & Ziva, followed by weekly releases thereafter. The series brings back NCIS fan favorite characters Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote De Pablo) for their own spin-off series.

NCIS: TONY & ZIVA picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then – and where we find them in NCIS: TONY & ZIVA – Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.

I haven’t seen any episodes of the “mothership” NCIS show, but quite enjoyed the premiere episode of NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The pilot does a nice job of bringing new viewers up to speed on the relationship and history of these two characters, before jumping right into the action. Unlike the more case-of-the-week style of the previous NCIS shows/spin-offs, NCIS: Tony & Ziva is much more serialized, following one main story over the course of the 10-episode season. It’s also only airing on streaming, not CBS, so they are not beholden to network TV standards—the S- and F-bombs are dropped pretty quickly. I really liked the first episode, which has this nice blend of action, drama and humor, and sets up an interesting storyline that I look forward to seeing more of.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we got the chance to speak with showrunner John McNamara and stars/executive producers Michael Weatherly & Cote de Pablo about the series…
