After 11 years (9 if you count Bad Grandpa), the guys of Jackass are back for more insane, often dangerous and ridiculous stunts and challenges to test the limits of stupidity and decency. For this latest film, the guys revisit and update some of their iconic stunts from the past, while also coming up with new ways to scare, embarrass, gross-out and hurt one another. While I’ve seen various Jackass sketches over the years, this was the first of their movies that I’ve watched all the way through. Ehren McGhehey is definitely the MVP of this film, taking on many of the most insane and dangerous stunts in the movie. All I can say is that no amount of money would have ever gotten me to attempt any of this stuff—it’s a wonder how these folks are still alive with their bodies still intact, or what insurance company was crazy enough to cover this production.
Jackass Forever consists of over 35 stunts, challenges and interstitials. Some of them have on-screen titles, while others don’t. Here’s a general rundown of those that made it into the film:
- The film opens with an epic Godzilla-like sequence, though the creature stomping through the miniature city is actually one of the guy’s junk in a costume
- “human ramp” – professional skateboarder David Gravette rides across ramps being held up by the cast
- “dum dum game” – Poopies, Ehren and Wee Man stand in tighty-whities waiting to have a machine swing a sandal at their the junk if they get a fourth-grade question wrong in this game show hosted by Johnny Knoxville
- Johnny shoots a soccer ball at Steve-O as he comes out of the trailer
- “silence of the lambs” – the cast are brought into a room in pairs where a snake and sudden darkness plays with their fears.
- the guys get lubed up and go down a massive homemade waterslide
- A buck naked Steve-O gets a beard of bees on his privates.
- “Irving Zisman” (from Bad Grandpa), his good-for-nothing granddaughter and not-so-handy handyman Zach surprise unsuspecting workers at a furniture store.
- “musical chair bags” – the cast play a game of musical exploding chairs
- “flight of icarus” – Johnny gets fired from a cannon
- Eric Manaka bikes full speed into a wall
- “the quiet game” – three folks dressed as mimes must remain quiet while being tortured
- “zackass” – Zach “flies” into a patch of cacti
- Ehren is once again testing the durability of an athletic cup, with the help of UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou, professional softball pitcher Danielle O’Toole, professional hockey player P.K. Subban, and Dave England on a pogo stick.
- Steve-P finds himself in an explosive port-o-potty
- In an update to a classic challenge, the guys try to light farts on fire underwater, this time with the help of explosion expert Tory Belleci
- professional skateboarder Jaws Homoki is swung around on a hammock
- Dark Shark faces his fear of spiders in a literal head-to-head challenge with Ehron
- An unsuspecting bystander tries to help a telephone pole worker hanging from a cherry picker
- “dirty dancing” – As Wee Man prepares to recreate the iconic Dirty Dancing dance scene, his partner Preston has an “accident”
- “the marching band” – the guys, dressed as a marching band, step onto a treadmill
- Eric André is excited to be on set, but gets a surprise as he stops at the coffee truck
- Preston’s nuts serve as a punching bag for a puppet in a miniature boxing gym
- Machine Gun Kelly and Steve-O compete in a bike race where the loser will be slapped into a pool by a giant foam hand
- “triple wedgie” – Wee Man, Preston and Zach, don tighty-whities for this elaborate simultaneous wedgie
- “scorpion botox” – Rachel gets stung in the face by a scorpion
- in this update of an old sketch Dave uses a toilet at a yard sale in front of horrified onlookers
- The guys make their way down a ramp, powered by massive fans
- A skateboarder is knocked over by someone else dressed like a fist
- In this update to a classic challenge, Wee Man participates in a voodoo ceremony involving two guys dressed as skeletons, a vulture, and raw meat on his groin.
- As Johnny Knoxville preps fifteen gallons of pig semen for another challenge, Chris gives him a surprise
- “electric tap dance” – Tyler, The Creator plays piano as the guys dance on a shocking stage
- “the boar-kake” – As Dave is being interviewed about the previous sketch, he gets his Carrie moment
- Ehren wears a shock collar while Johnny administers a lie detector test, but he’s in for an even bigger shock
- Chris wedges his junk in-between two clear plastic plates to play paddleball
- “the magic trick” – Johnny returns to the bull ring to do a magic trick, but things don’t go as planned
- “vomitron” – the guys drink milk before going on a centrifuge, but that is just the start of an all out epic final battle
During the credits there is also a fun montage of even more fun outtakes, alternate takes, and archival footage/comparisons between the original/updated sketches. I think fans of the franchise will certainly be pleased with this latest outing, and those who are curious can check out the film first on Paramount+. While this is not something I would generally seek out to watch, I found myself mesmerized by the shear stupidity on display. I couldn’t look away even though I often wanted to. I can only imagine the pain some of these pranks caused the participants!
Paramount’s Blu-ray release looks and sounds great, with a clean, detailed picture that captures all of sights and sounds of the lunacy at play, in its sometimes nasty detail. Final Thoughts:
Jackass Forever is something that certainly won’t appeal to everyone, with its dangerous and sophomoric stunts and challenges, often involving the guys’ naked junk and asses. However, for those who do enjoy this kind of stuff, I don’t think you will be disappointed by this latest installment of the franchise. It seems very much par for the course. The guys (and gals) are back in fine form with some new folks joining them to revisit and update some classics as well as coming up with new crazy ideas. Paramount’s Blu-ray looks and sounds great, and includes lots of fun extra footage. This is an easy recommendation for fans of the franchise. Others unfamiliar with the Jackass antics should check out the film first on Paramount+.
