The Legends are back for another fun-filled season of adventures, this time taking on aliens. As the fifth season came to a close, John Constantine (Matt Ryan) had managed to get his soul back from the devil, and Astra Logue (Olivia Swann) had also exited Hell with him, and was staying with him in his manor, trying to figure out how to live a normal human life. Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) had sacrificed herself, staying in the Air Totem in order to maintain the balance of the universe, which made things difficult for boyfriend Nate Heywood (Nick Zano). Zari 2.0 took her place outside of the totem, and was hooking up with John. Meanwhile, Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) reconnected with his daughter, and Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) took over as the leader of the Legends.
As the sixth season opens, the Legends are in 1977 London, recovering from a wild party the night before. However, it appears that Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) has gone missing and the team is having trouble locating her. That is, until David Bowie shows them a video of Sara being abducted by an alien spaceship, but not before stating that she was planning to propose to Ava. Now Ava is even more eager to find Sara and bring her home. Meanwhile, Sara wakes up on an alien spaceship to find herself joined by Spartacus, and Gary Green (Adam Tsekhman), who’s been hiding a huge secret about himself. In their attempt to fight off an alien attack and try to get back to Earth, Sara and Gary accidentally jettison many aliens aboard their ship into a timeline portal before it closes, trapping them in space. As Gary and Sara try to figure out how to get home, the rest of the Legends now have to locate these aliens that have been scattered throughout history and fix the timeline. To assist them, the Legends recruit reluctant new team member Esperanza ‘Spooner’ Cruz (Lisseth Chavez), who twenty years earlier had been abducted by aliens and now has a connection with them…one that she’s not too fond of. Also back this season are ship voice Gideon (Amy Louise Pemberton) and stoner Legend Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian).
Some of the wacky adventures this season include a visit to a 1950s burger joint where the special sauce is turning people into zombies, an alien Amelia Earhart (Jennifer Oleksiuk), a duel to the death on a futuristic DJ reality competition series, fixing the Cuban missile crisis now that aliens have become involved, the Legends being turned into household objects a la Beauty and the Beast (and an animated musical sequence to follow), a Back to the Future Part II style return to the season opener, a late 1800s western town with singing cowboy narrator, visiting the set of Behrad’s favorite Canadian stoner sitcom, 1939 Spain and a magic fountain, a cosmic bowling match to decide the fate of the planet, getting stuck in a murderous board game, and more. In addition to the various alien threats, the team also finds themselves up against Constantine’s nemesis Aleister Crowley (Matt Lucas), mad scientist Bishop (Raffi Barsoumian), and alien warrior Kayla (Aliyah O’Brien).
While the episodes are mostly mission-of-the-week style plots, there are also some ongoing storylines and character development. This season, that is especially true of Sara/Ava, John Constantine, and Mick (who has a hilarious development that I don’t want to spoil). The episodes flow right into the next, which makes this such great to binge on disc. This series just keeps getting better and better each season—the alien twist this season gave the writers lots of fun new situations and material to work with. They are always finding creative new places to take the series, and this season that included an musical animated Disney princess sequence. In typical fashion, the writers also make you think everything is going to get wrapped up neatly at the end of the season, just to throw in a big twist in the final moments—it’s a good thing the seventh season is already airing on The CW, so I don’t have to wait to see what happens next!
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Blu-ray release looks and sounds amazing. The picture is pretty immaculate, with rich colors and details, and always looks fantastic no matter what time period or location the Legends end up in. The audio track provides clear dialogue and makes excellent use of the stereo and surround channels to put the viewer in the middle of the action, providing an immersive and exciting viewing experience. The episodes are spread across 3 discs. The discs are packed in a standard multi-disc HD keepcase with a cardboard slipcover, along with an insert detailing the contents of each disc. The release also includes a code to redeem a digital copy of the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow sixth season episodes on Vudu. The bonus material exclusive to this release includes over 28 minutes of deleted scenes, a 7-minute gag reel, and some VFX and split screen featurettes. The Blu-ray release also includes a 21-minute look at DC sidekicks from across the Arrowverse (this featurette also appeared on several other recent DC TV show releases).

Final Thoughts:
In its sixth season, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow remains a fun, exciting and thoroughly entertaining series. The writers must have a blast coming up with these crazy storylines and adventures for the Waverider crew, especially with this season’s alien twist. Warner Bros’ Blu-ray release looks and sounds great, and includes a nice selection of bonus material, especially for those who like deleted scenes! Legends remains one of my favorites of the Arrowverse shows as the episodes are always so much fun.
