All-New Season Sees Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd Plunging into a Web of Deception as Mysterious Murders Continue to Plague the Community


NEW YORK – April 7, 2025 – Quirky, fan-favorite crime drama, The Brokenwood Mysteries , returns with an all-new season exclusively on Acorn TV in the US and Canada on Monday, April 21 . Additional episodes of the series’ six-episode eleventh season drop weekly on Mondays on the platform. Starring Neill Rea (Go Girls, Auckward Love) as Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd and Fern Sutherland (The Almighty Johnsons) as by-the-book Detective Kristin Sims, the captivating series sees the formidable duo and their team investigate crimes in the sleepy and secret-filled town of Brokenwood, New Zealand.

From seemingly supernatural incidents in the idyllic community of Brokenwood to mysterious murders with hidden motives, Season 11 of the series sees Shepherd and his team plunge into a web of deception, greed and dark secrets, using less than conventional methods to tackle their most perplexing cases yet.

The all-new season of The Brokenwood Mysteries also sees the return of Cristina Serban Ionda (Filthy Rich) as eccentric pathologist Dr. Gina Kadinsky and Jarod Rawiri (Shortland Street) as no-nonsense Detective Constable Daniel Chalmers.

The Brokenwood Mysteries , an Acorn TV Exclusive Series, is produced by South Pacific Pictures. Tim Balme serves as head writer and producer and wrote the season premiere and finale episodes. Laura Hill and Roy Ward wrote Episodes 2 and 5, Tania Klouwens wrote Episode 3 and Mike Smith wrote Episode 4. Smith also directed Episodes 1 and 4, while Ian Hughes directed Episode 2, Jacqueline Nairn directed Episode 3, Awanui Simich-Pene directed Episode 5 and Katie Wolfe directed Episode 6. The series is executive produced by Sally Campbell , Kelly Martin and Andrew Szusterman .
 

EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS

Episode 1101 – “The Ghost in You” – Premieres Monday, April 21 on Acorn TV
Shepherd and his team investigate when a devoted fan of the band Stolen Arrow falls to her death from a bell tower. The detective must dig into the band’s secrets and dark history to find the actual cause of the victim’s demise.

Episode 1102 – “Sudden Death Round” – Premieres Monday, April 28 on Acorn TV
When popular radio host Ryan Osbourne is killed in an explosion at his old high school, the shockwaves rattle the community. The hidden rivalries and secrets that emerge create a long list of suspects for Shepherd.

Episode 1103 – “All Hallows Eve” – Premieres Monday, May 5 on Acorn TV
After a man is fatally stabbed during a séance, and no weapon is found, Shepherd digs into the eerie incident to catch the murderer. Questioning if supernatural forces were involved, the team must separate superstition from reality.

Episode 1104 – “How the Other Half Dies” – Premieres Monday, May 12 on Acorn TV
When Brokenwood’s elite begin to act strangely, the occurrences come to a head after a wealthy man is crushed by a chandelier in his home. As Shepherd investigates, he uncovers a tangled mystery filled with greed and revenge.

Episode 1105 – “The End of the Line” – Premieres Monday, May 19 on Acorn TV
A science teacher mysteriously dies ziplining while staffing a leadership camp for teens. But after the victim’s past reveals a web of uneasy alliances and rivalries, Shepherd must cipher through a long list of suspects.

Episode 1106 – “An Oades to Christmas” – Premieres Monday, May 26 on Acorn TV
When a man dressed as Santa is found dead on the side of the road, the team investigates. But after Gina examines the body and concludes the cause of death was a heart.
