BEHIND THE STREAMS
Is it nature, nurture or a spattering of both that makes someone into a murderer? Find out this month when everyone’s favorite avenging serial killer returns in a thrilling origin story that peels back the layers that comprise Dexter Morgan. Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin explores the emergence of the titular character’s bloodthirsty urges as he learns, under the guidance of his father Harry, how to channel his inner darkness with a Code designed to help him eliminate society’s irredeemables.
Stepping into this paternal role for the 10-episode prequel series is Golden Globe-winner Christian Slater, who admires the dedication of Dexter’s father to his son. “We get much greater insight into Harry Morgan’s background,” said Slater. “He loves and adores Dexter and is willing to embrace the good, the bad and the darkness to do everything he possibly can to protect his family, and his son in particular.”
Patrick Gibson, who plays Dexter Morgan, admits that he has large shoes to fill for a character with so much existing lore. “It’s a challenge to play someone who’s not an entirely new iteration like Sean Connery and Daniel Craig as James Bond,” explained Gibson. “We have Michael C. Hall still portraying Dexter’s inner monologue, so I spent a lot of time listening to his voice and watching the show to pick up on things and take notes.”
Learn more about the origin of America’s favorite serial killer when Dexter: Original Sin premieres on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME* December 13. And, if you need to catch up or just want a refresher, we have both the original Dexter and Dexter: New Blood streaming now.
