ATX TV Festival Expands Season 12 Line-up with HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones,” Freeform’s “Cruel Summer” and “grown-ish,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Accused” and More

Austin, TX – ATX TV FESTIVAL has announced additional programming for Season 12, taking place June 1-4, 2023 in Austin, TX.
HBO returns to the festival for the 12th straight year with the World Premiere screening for Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed televangelist comedy “The Righteous Gemstones,” starring Danny McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine. The screening will be followed by a conversation with McBride, who also serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, along with additional cast and creatives to be announced soon. Season 3 of “The Righteous Gemstones” premieres this summer on HBO.
Freeform will screen the Season 2 premiere of the network’s hit anthology series “Cruel Summer.” Season 2 features a brand-new cast and resets the story to the Pacific Northwest. Following the screening, cast & creatives will join for a conversation about the new season, set across three timelines surrounding Y2K. Panelists will be announced at a later date.
The festival will also feature a conversation with the cast & showrunner of “grown-ish.” The conversation will explore the show’s honest portrayal of the collegiate experience and give fans an exclusive first look at the upcoming sixth season, which premieres this summer on Freeform.
Award-winning writer, comedian, producer and host Seth Meyers (“Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Documentary Now!” “Saturday Night Live”) will attend for the first time for a look inside NBC’s Emmy-nominated “Late Night,” to discuss his unique approach to late-night TV, comedy, satire, and everything in between.
The festival has announced that actors Ted Danson and George Wendt, who starred in all eleven seasons of “Cheers,” will join the previously announced “Cheers” 30th anniversary event, alongside co-creators James Burrows, Les Charles, and Glen Charles. The retrospective conversation will reflect on the series’ decade-long run, its definitive place in TV history, and provide an insider look into the beloved show. iHeartPodcasts, a first-time festival partner, will showcase their expansive TV Rewatch and TV Companion podcast slate with a conversation featuring hosts from “Hey Dude, the ‘90s Called!,” “9021OMG,” “Almost Famous,” “Two T’s In A Pod” and more. Panelists will be announced soon.
FOX will host an inside look at “Accused,” the network’s hit crime anthology series from executive producer & showrunner Howard Gordon (“24,” “Homeland”). Gordon and additional cast/creatives will join for a conversation about adapting the series for an American audience, and the show’s complex and timely explorations of ordinary people navigating extraordinary situations. Additional participants will be announced soon.
Returning Programming Partners include the Television Academy, who will return for the 8th year to present their “Powerful TV” panel conversation, with a focus on the content creators and programs recognized by this Spring’s Television Academy Honors. The partnership will also include a multi-day presence in the festival’s official Industry Lounge, with hosted reception and special access for Television Academy members throughout the festival and for Television working professionals who aren’t Academy members yet, they are welcome to visit the Lounge and learn more about the benefits of membership.
In addition, USC Norman Lear Center’s Hollywood, Health & Society will return for the 5th year to present a track of socially impactful panels, exploring TV’s approach to narratives about the Climate Emergency, Racial Justice, Artificial Intelligence, and Aging & Caregiving, and the tangible impact that television has on audience knowledge and behavior around these issues.
The festival has also announced a slate of topical industry panels, including:
- “State of the Union: A Conversation with TV’s Leaders” featuring executives within the industry
- “The Role of a Producing Director”
- “TV’s Blockbuster”
- “The Camera’s Eye” presented by Panavision, focused on the craft of cinematography and collaboration between directors and DPs
- “Are They a Good Person? (The New “Likable”)”
