DVD Review: Love’s Christmas Journey

Dec 03, 2012 Posted by in DVD/Blu-ray, Reviews | Comments

While I must admit, I haven’t read the books, but I have enjoyed the “Love Saga” films immensely. This may sound funny coming from a tech savvy geek girl, but this series of family friendly, beautifully shot movies evoke memories of waiting by the TV to watch Little House on the Prairie as a kid. If you haven’t seen the rest of the films (Love Comes Softly, Love’s Enduring Promise, Love’s Long Journey, Love’s Abiding Joy, Love’s Unending Legacy, Love’s Unfolding Dream, Love Takes Wing and Love’s Everlasting Courage), they are already available on DVD (I own them all) or they are shown exclusively on PIXL.

After her husband Owen and daughter Jessica were killed in a tornado, Elli King heads out west to visit her brother Aaron Davis, the Sheriff of Haddington and his children for Christmas. Ellie watches her niece and nephew while Aaron travels for business and he disappears, a suspicious fire ensues, shenanigans go on in town over the railroad and forbidden love blooms. Ellie’s forced to investigate
her brother’s disappearance with the help of his handsome deputy. Will Aaron be found? Will he be home before Christmas? Will prejudice convict the wrong man of a crime? Will the railroad come to town? Will Haddington celebrate Christmas in the wake of events? Can Ellie open her heart again?

This installment of the Love series has some appearances by names you’ll know: Sean Astin, JoBeth Williams, Charles O’Shaughnessy and Oscar Award winner Ernest Borgnine. The cinematography is lovely and the plot line has a couple of interesting twists and turns. It was so nice to be able to watch a film with my 11 year old without reservation. It’s a good, clean movie with family values and an uplifting message. The movie is 171 minutes long and is divided into two parts for ease of viewing.
