Tonight Syfy continues its tradition of Saturday night original movies with the all-new disaster film Christmas Icetastrophe. A meteor strikes the small town of Lennox, Montana and starts spreading a deadly flash freeze across the area. Handyman Charlie (Victor Webster, Continuum) tries to evacuate the town to neighboring Tannen, where his ex-wife lives. In the process, he crosses paths with Alex Novak (Jennifer Spence, Continuum, Stargate Universe), a PhD student who had been studying the meteor for weeks. Together they try to figure out a way to stop the deadly storm from spreading.

This film has all of the elements you would expect to find in a Syfy Original Movie—action, special effects and a bit of cheese/over-the-top absurdity to add to the fun. The film also provides a lot of character drama—there’s a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story as we follow Charlie’s son Tim (Richard Harmon, Continuum, The 100), who’s secretly dating Marley (Tiera Skovbye, The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story), the daughter of the town’s evil land developer (Mike Dopud, Continuum). We also follow the town’s mayor (Ben Cotton, The Killing), Marley’s over-protective brother Scott (Andrew Francis, The Invisible), and many other townsfolk as they struggle to get away from the fast-approaching frost.

Bundle up, turn up the heat, and try to stay warm as the Christmas Icetastrophe strikes at 9/8c tonight on Syfy.
