Syfy Digital Press Tour 2013 – Part 2 – BEING HUMAN Set Visit

Nov 13, 2013 Posted by in Promos/Clips, Set Visit | 2 comments

In Part 1 of my coverage of the 2013 Syfy Digital Press Tour, I talked about the Welcome Dinner. In this post, I’ll cover our visit to the set of the series Being Human.

Being Human returns to Syfy this January for its fourth season, and I can’t wait for it! For those unfamiliar with the show, it centers around a werewolf, his wife (who’s also a werewolf), a ghost and a vampire who all live together as roommates in a Boston apartment. While this may sound like the makings of a fun sitcom, you’re partially right as the show does have some hilarious moments. However, it is also a spooky, supernatural drama with the great characters.

Having watched the series for the past three years, I was really excited to finally get to see the set!

Monday, October 7

7:00am Group gathers in lobby of Le St. Sulpice Hotel
7:15am Buses depart and travel to the Being Human set
7:30am Arrive Being Human. Catered breakfast.

We gathered in the lobby of the hotel really early in the morning, and boarded the buses for a short drive to the studio. When we arrived, we went into a large room with a green screen stage to the left, tables with food in the back, and chairs set up for the day’s presentations in the front.

We ate our breakfast and debated whether the scrambled eggs were covered in some sort of cheese sauce or just really runny. Then we started looking at the tables full of props that were laid out for us to look at. Probably the most amazing of these was the life-size Sally corpse. It looked so life-like that I half-expected Meaghan Rath to suddenly open her eyes, or grab our arms to scare us. On the tables, there was also a lot of prosthetics in various stages of completeness, some fake babies, a quartet of vampire heads and a large full-size wolf. It was just amazing how realistic all of this looked. Later in this post you will find all of my photos of these, along with audio and video of a presentation by a member of the special effects team.

8:00am Guided set tour led by Executive Producer Anna Fricke & Production Designer Zoë Sakellaropoulo.

When we first walked onto the set, we saw the exterior set piece for the house’s entry. The full, exterior shots are filmed elsewhere at a college apartment. We walked through the main entryway, into the house and immediately saw Sally’s staircase, the family room, the dining room and the kitchen. As you can see in the photos, the decor of the house has been changed from its usual look. Anna Fricke told us that they use the house in a lot of different ways this upcoming season. This season we see things happen at different times/eras in the house, and this is during some vintage/recycling phase.

I was also really excited to finally get a glimpse of the famous Dog, The Cat Man Dude in person—and even took a selfie with him. Anna told us that there was a portrait of him that a fan had made, and that they had it framed and are going to put it up on the set. (We got to see the unveiling of this epic photo later in the day.)
