This Week’s New TV-on-DVD/BD Releases

Aug 13, 2012 Posted by in DVD/Blu-ray | Comments

There are some big TV-on-DVD & Blu-ray releases this week, including Community Season 3, Dexter Season 6, Glee Season 3 and Happy Endings Seasons 1&2 (if you just want Season 2, you’ll need to wait until October!). Here’s some more details about those releases as well as the other shows hitting DVD this week.

Community: The Complete Third Season (DVD)

America’s most incorrigible study group of misfits returns for a hilariously ingenious new year at Greendale Community College. From homicidal Halloween pizza parties, holiday Glee Club smackdowns, foosball showdowns, epic pillow fight wars and an underage campus security force to a shocking remarriage, a riotous funeral service, submarine sandwich throwdowns, a new Vice Dean (Emmy Award Winner John Goodman) with a strange air-conditioning fixation and a crime show homage for the ages – the Third Season of television’s boldest, brashest comedy is the most brilliant yet. Get ready to cram it all in. Starring Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Jim Rash, with Ken Jeong and Emmy Award winner Chevy Chase.

Season Three brings new changes to the Greendale campus, as well as its students. Senor Chang now lives in the school’s air vents working as Greendale’s Campus Security Officer; Troy and Abed move in together; and a new Vice Dean is in town. COMMUNITY: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON contains all 22 episodes on a three-disc DVD set and is loaded with bonus material, including fan-favorite spoof episodes full of mystery, crime and even some glee! Special features also include cast and crew commentary on every episode, “This is War: Pillows vs. Blankets” mockumentary featurette, “A Glee-ful Community Christmas” featurette, deleted scenes, and a gag reel.

Guest stars for Season Three also include Jeff Garlin (TV’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Luis Guzman (TV’s “How to Make It in America”), Michael Ironside (X-Men: First Class), Martin Starr (Knocked Up), and French Stewart (TV’s “3rd Rock from the Sun”).

Dexter: The Sixth Season [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray & DVD)

The explosively popular DEXTER is back with a vengeance for a sixth season of startling suspense and unexpected twists. It’s been a year since last season’s shocking and heartbreaking conclusion, and mild mannered criminologist-cum-grisly serial killer Dexter Morgan has come to terms with who he is. But his existence is shattered when he crosses paths with an enemy unlike any he’s faced before. A delusional religious zealot with unflinching convictions, this new adversary soon draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could well end in disaster.

Glee: The Complete Third Season [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray & DVD)

Season Three of the electrifying, award-winning series finds the Gleeks headed for the Nationals – and graduation! As younger members join New Directions, others are about to begin exciting, if uncertain, lives outside it. Featuring some of television’s most enthralling song and dance numbers, including memorable hits from the legendary Michael Jackson, Glee continues to earn its place in the hearts of viewers around the world.

Bonus Features include: Glee Music Jukebox, Santana’s “Santa Baby” Music Video, and featurettes Glee Under the Stars, The Spanish Teacher, Glee Give a Note, Props, Welcome to the Class, Making the Finale, Saying Goodbye, Sue Addresses Her Fans, and More of Sue’s Quips.

Happy Endings: Seasons 1 & 2 (DVD)

The standalone Happy Endings Season 2 DVD release isn’t coming until October. However, for a limited time you can get this special double-pack of the first two seasons now—and at the same MSRP as Season 2 alone.

Season One: Take six twentysomething Chicago friends, add cocktails and hormones, shake, and, you’ve got Happy Endings, the hilarious, edgy new comedy that asks: when a couple splits, who gets to keep the friends? Dave (Zachary Knighton, TV’s FlashForward) finds fulfillment (sort of) manning a food truck after losing his hot fiancee Alex (Elisha Cuthbert, TV’s 24) at the altar. Alex’s type-A sister Jane (Eliza Coupe, TV’s Scrubs) is almost happily married to horndog Brad (Damon Wayans Jr., TV’s The Underground). Dave’s roommate Max (Adam Pally) is a gay, sports-loving slob, and Penny (Casey Wilson, TV’s SNL) is on the prowl for a good man…or men. The laughs are nonstop as they do what tightly-knit friends do best: hang out, have fun, debate the meaning of life, hook up, break up, and do it all over again!

Special Features: Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, Mike Relm Remix, Banana Republic Style Previews, Mark Douglas Parody Theme Song, Mark Douglas Interview with Adam Pally and Casey Wilson

Season Two: Crank landlords, nosy childhood friends, Brozilians, gym bullies, sexy Halloween costumes, racist parrots, Happy Endings: The Complete Second Season offers more, more, more of the hit series about six best friends navigating life and love in Chicago’s hip downtown. Alex (Elisha Cuthbert, TV’s 24) and Dave (Zachary Knighton, TV’s FlashForward) become real friends again (with – whoops! – benefits?). Jane (Eliza Coupe, TV’s Scrubs) hilariously tests out her maternal instincts while hubby Brad (Damon Wayans Jr., TV’s The Underground) unwittingly gets a “work wife.” Max (Adam Pally) actually lands the perfect boyfriend that the gang falls in love with. Meanwhile, “The Year of Penny” is off to a rocky start as Penny (Casey Wilson, TV’s Saturday Night Live) struggles with everything from birthday curses to ’80s-themed scavenger hunts. Another round of laughs, please, for the funniest show on TV!

Special Features: Deleted Scenes, Outtakes.
