Suburban slacker Noah (Jonah Hill) has been suspended from college and is living at home with his divorced mother. He reluctantly agrees to watch a neighbor’s three kids so that his mother can go on a date. However, soon after he arrives, he gets a booty call from his girlfriend, and takes the kids with him as he ventures into the city. Things quickly spin out of control a he finds himself being chased by drug kingpin Karl (Sam Rockwell), while also struggling just to maintain control of the children.
I found this film to just be a more vulgar, less funny, and more cartoonish version of Adventures in Babysitting. It seemed confused as to its target audience. The Sitter has an R rating due to all the sex, drugs and language. However, the comedy seems to be aimed at a younger audience. The violence in the film is done Home Alone/cartoon style, where things that should maim or kill someone don’t–an explosion just leaves a blackened face. The three children: the neurotic Slater (Max Records), the young celebrity-wannabe Blithe (Landry Bender), and the pyromaniac adopted son Rodrigo (Kevin Hernandez), also seem to be primarily geared towards a younger sense of humor. I couldn’t find much believable or likable about these three characters (or any of the characters). Though I must admit that Blithe did actually have a few funny moments.
In general, it seems like they would have been better off just toning down the sex, drugs and language and shooting for a PG or PG-13 rating. So the Unrated version on the Blu-ray really makes no sense–in fact it probably makes this split-personality of the film even more evident. There were very few moments in this film that had me smiling, and even fewer that had me laughing.

Final Thoughts:
I have no complaints with how the blu-ray looks and sounds. However, the film itself just isn’t funny and seems to hope vulgarity will win folks over rather than actual content. And it seems torn as to who the target audience is.
There are a lot of extras, but none of them really make this film better–an audio commentary track from Jonah Hill or the kids would have been nice.
Do yourself a favor and just (re)watch Adventures in Babysitting instead.
